This is an antique lace collar that is hand made in a combination of blue and ecru or beige colours. I am not a lace expert, but I believe that the lace is Bedfordshire lace, which is a type of bobbin lace. It is quite intricate and incorporates various motifs in the pattern. It is difficult to date precisely, but almost certainly 19th century, Victorian era. It is quite a large collar, measuring 22 in width by about 12 in height. It is in very good condition with practically no signs of wear - just a bit around the interior edge where it probably had originally been attached to a garment, really minor.
This is a beautiful piece - Ive included extreme close-ups, so please have a look at the complexity of the work, this would have taken many hours to complete!
